Abstract

"The development of new technologies for design automobiles with high efficiency and low exhaust emissions is an important research area of the industry nowadays. This thesis is the first part of the implementation of an advanced test bench for small Diesel engines. The main task of this work is to develop an interface with Labview and simulate the model of a proposed car to set all the setpoints required to follow a speed trajectory according with European rules for certification, which are the ECE, EUDC and NEDC cycles. These cycles represent the speed of the automobile in kilometers per hour and characterize the common driving behavior of cars on urban and suburban areas in Europe. All equations and parameters required to execute the calculations to obtain the angular speed and torque in the crankshaft of the diesel engine are set in order to establish the setpoints for the speed and torque controllers. The use of a DC motor coupled to the Diesel engine represents the complete simulated system and by the employment of a DC drive with cascade control, the speed control and current control are implemented."
